TMD were engaged as a multidisciplinary consultant for the delivery of a new kitchen and surgery for Somerville College in the Statutory Grade II listed Dining Hall. TMD’s initial involvement was in 2015 when a pre-feasibility study was prepared at which point it was established a key mechanism for the successful delivery of the project was sufficient planning and preparation before work commenced.

Works started in the summer of 2020 with Practical Completion being issued 10 months later, within the programme time scales to allow the college to open the new facilities in time for the 2021 summer conferencing season.

Project Achievements

Despite the onset of the coronavirus pandemic the works progressed and were effectively managed to the extent that no time was lost due to the virus.

Project Challenges

Due to the age of the building unforeseen legacy issues and deleterious materials were uncovered during the course of the works. These were overcome, with the impact to the programme effectively managed.
